Abstract Title: The importance of clear communication in the health fields when you are away from home

Biography:

-May 2025 – Present 2025 -Teach Medical English to doctors and nurses working at the Serena del Mar Hospital, Cartagena, Colombia. I prepare them to pass the ECFMG exams.
-September 2015 to December 2024--Retired from teaching Medical English, at Santa Fe College, Gainesville, Florida.
-August 2011-July 2015--Taught four years at the English Language Institute of the University of Florida in Gainesville.
-1973-2011-Worked in English, French and Spanish at United Nations Headquarters in New York for 37 years and retired. While at the UN, I was stationed in Peacekeeping Operations in Cambodia, Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Congo, all French speaking countries.
-1983-1986--Masters in TESOL, Teaching English to Students of other Languages.
-1971-1972 worked on Masters in French at the University in Nancy, France and Queens College, part of the City University of New York.
-1967-1971 – Graduated Cum Laude from Davis and Elkins College with a degree in Education, French and Spanish.

Research Interest:

I teach Medical English including Anatomy, Physiology and Terminology to health professionals working at the Serena del Mar Hospital in Cartagena, Colombia, so they can better communicate with international patients. Some professionals want to emigrate to the US or the UK and work in English. Many health professionals know medicine and may want to emigrate to the US or UK, so they need to improve their Medical English, as well as know how those health systems work. Today, as people travel all over the world it is very important to have a standard of efficient communication between patient and different medical professionals.
