Research Interest:

Leadership competencies are leadership skills, and behaviors that contribute to superior performance. However, skills needed for a particular position may change depending on the specific leadership level in the organization. When selecting and developing, leader professionals should consider the competencies that the individual possesses and compare those to the ones that need further development for success in a leadership role. Descriptive correlation design was utilized in the study, purposive sampling was used to select participants and involved fifty (50) nurse managers, from the different nursing units of the hospital under study. The researcher's self-constructed questionnaire was employed, then subjected to statistical analysis using the SPSS 20. The data were analyzed using weighted means to show the measurement of nurse leaders' competencies and the measure of the extent of the outcome of global nurse leaders' competencies on nurse manager's behavior, and the significant correlation between nurse leaders' competencies and its outcome to nurse manager's behavior. Nurse leaders' competencies as assessed by nurse managers, shows that the number one consideration is the competency on "Leading Yourself", followed by "Leading Others" and the third, "Leading the Organization" which got a mean score of 3.93, 3.86 and 3.85 respectively.Among the three domains of competencies that affect the behaviors of the nurse manager in the practice of profession, the greatly affected category is on the domain of leading the organization, followed by leading yourself, and the final, Leading others obtained weighted mean of 3.98, 3.96 and 3.95 respectively. There exists significant correlation in only one group. The competency of the nurse managers, in leading others and its outcome in the behavior in the practice of profession is highly negatively correlated with the level of competency of the nurse managers, in leading the organization and its effect in the behavior. This is indicated by the R-value of 0.871 and the dependency of about 76%.
